At Chantlers Primary School, we are proud of our forward-thinking approach to sustainability and environmentally driven education. We believe that developing a love and respect for the environment starts early, and we are committed to nurturing environmentally responsible citizens for the future.
Our Vision
Our aim is to create a whole-school culture where sustainability is embedded in everything we do. Through our Climate Action Plan, we provide a clear and structured approach to reducing our environmental impact while inspiring pupils to take positive action.
Learning About the Environment
Sustainability is woven throughout our curriculum, giving pupils the opportunity to explore important environmental issues in an engaging and meaningful way.
Our children learn about the world around them through:
- High-quality texts and resources focused on the environment
- Inspirational figures such as Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough
- Cross-curricular learning across subjects such as science and geography
Our Outdoor Environment
We are fortunate to have extensive green space within our school grounds, including a pond, meadow area, and a variety of trees and natural habitats. These spaces allow our pupils to:
- Explore and learn about nature first-hand
- Develop an understanding of biodiversity
- Build a strong connection with the environment
Pupil Leadership – Our Eco-Council
Our Eco-Council plays a key role in leading sustainability initiatives across the school. Pupils are empowered to share ideas, lead projects, and make a real difference.
One of our most exciting initiatives is our Eco Refill Shop, a pupil-led enterprise that:
- Encourages the reduction of single-use plastics
- Promotes environmentally friendly products
- Develops pupils’ business and leadership skills
Creating a Sustainable Culture
Sustainability is part of everyday life at Chantlers. Our sustainability wall art in the central corridor acts as a daily reminder of our responsibility to care for the planet and inspires pupils to think about their impact.
Our Commitment to the Future
Through our Climate Action Plan, we are committed to:
- Continuously improving our environmental practices
- Reducing waste and promoting sustainable choices
- Engaging pupils, staff, and the wider community in climate action
- We are proud of the steps we are taking and remain committed to building a greener, more sustainable future for all.
