Learning Outside the Classroom

At Chantlers Learning Outside the classroom is an integral part of our approach to learning. This may involve the weekly sessions in our forest school area, visits within our community, trips and residential visits.

We have developed the natural pond and woodland area of our school grounds from where we deliver our forest school provision. This allows each child the opportunity to interact with nature, work together, build relationships with each other, respect and understand our flora and fauna that surrounds our school, whilst learning and gaining experience of the outdoors.

We have developed a mental health and wellbeing area, housing a 'hub' and herb garden within a meadow environment.

Our aim is to provide:

  • The experiences to take inspiration from the outside environment and to be curious, fascinated, interested and inventive in its exploration.
  • The freedom to explore different ways of 'being', feeling, behaving and interacting as participants are given the physical, mental and emotional space to be active and interactive.
  • Opportunities to meet challenges and learn to assess theirown risk taking, whilst developing their own resourcefulness and imagination.
