Gallery of Learning...

As it is coming up to Holocaust Memorial Day, Year 2 have been learning about this tragic event. Pupils contributed to an in-depth discussion and expressed their mixed range of emotions - anger, confusion and grief. However, they also discussed the importance of acceptance, respect and standing together.

In order to recognise Holocaust Memorial Day, the children produced a meaningful piece of art. Yellow is a recurring theme throughout the work - it not only signifies the ‘Jude’ Star of David that Jewish people were instructed to wear, it also represents a brighter future with hope and acceptance.

In Judaism, a candle is lit to remember someone who has lost their life. Its a constant reminder for us to never forget the millions of people who lost their lives for 'being different.' As Elie Wiesel said, "for the dead and the living, we must bear witness." Year 2 decorated quotes, to represent the fight against darkness - "hope is stronger than fear."

Every pupil in year 2 contributed to creating this wonderful message of acceptance and celebrating difference - a message that lives on through Holocaust remembrance.

Well done Year 2.
