‘a world of possibilities’

National Support School (NSS)

Congratulations to our Headteacher Mr Philip Barlow who has been designated as a National Leader of Education, which means Chantlers Primary School has become a National Support School (NSS).

National Leaders of Education are outstanding Headteachers who together with the Staff in their schools, known as designated National Support Schools (NSS) use their skills, expertise and experience to support schools in challenging circumstances.

Chantlers has a very successful record of working with other schools, Headteachers, groups of teachers and individuals to improve teaching and learning, pupil attainment and progress.  In addition to leading their own schools, NLEs work to build the leadership capacity of other schools to help raise standards across the country.

Schools seeking advice, support, guidance or help of any kind can contact Phil for an informal discussion via the school office on 0161 761 1074.

This year we have been supporting Essa Primary Academy in Bolton.  Congratulations to them on their recent successful Ofsted.

Congratulations from Roger Pope, NCTL Chair

Congratulations on your recent designation as a national leader of education and on stepping up to the challenge of taking responsibility for improving not just your own school, but others as well.
As both a national leader of education and the chair of NCTL, I understand the power of the support that you and your school will be able to provide to schools in challenging circumstances. I have also seen the reciprocal benefits that support provides: every school you work with will undoubtedly provide you with ideas to help improve your own practice.

As system leaders, we are united by having the power to do what we know is right for young people. The support you can offer as national leaders of education is vital to the further development of a school-led system. It is more important than ever that we seize the opportunities on offer or it will be a generation before we get that power again.

To help share the news about your new role and to promote your national support school and its work, we have created a marketing toolkit, which includes:

your national support school logo and guidance on its use

press release templates for you to adapt and share with local media

If you would like to share any thoughts and opinions on how best NCTL can help you to build a school-led system, please contact me directly at or on Twitter at @rogerjpope.
